Green tea – Why?

November 30th, 2009

Over the recent years, we have re-discovered a lot of treatments and herbs that have great properties and benefits for our health and well-being, one of these is green tea, a drink that has been used for thousands of year in China and Japan.

Integrating green tea into your life can be done in many ways. I started drinking green tea as iced tea without sugar, but then winter came and I started to drink it hot with sugar. On some days if I am not going to drink green tea I take it in the form of pills.

Green tea has been strongly promoted to help losing weight. According to some studies, it was discovered that men and women who took green tea on their diets burnt more fat than people with no green tea or a placebo. It helps in using fat to produce energy.

However, a more important finding is the one related to cancer. Green tea contain powerful antioxidants called catechins that have been shown incredibly helpful to fight cancer cells, and they eliminate these cells without making any damage to healthy tissue.

Green tea has already been employed greatly in many skin care products which include it in their formula. This type of tea has proven useful to retard the effects of exposure to sun and aging. Again it helps preventing skin cancer by eliminating free radicals.

The question that pops up is: why isn’t green tea as widely used then? Part of the blame goes to modern medicine that always look down on alternative treatments and unscrupulous doctors that prefer chemical based products instead of formulas for pharmaceutical profits.

Where can you get green tea? I find green tea on my local grocery store, they have a section for Chinese stuff, however not all grocery stores have that. If that is your case you can also buy it online.

Those are just some of the benefits of green tea in your health. Find out more about how your health can be improved by drinking green tea.

Green Tea Can Be Your Skins Savior!

November 20th, 2009

Did you know that Green Tea has been named ‘The Skin Tea’? It has been so named due to properties it holds that can do wonders for your skin. Is clear, youthful, invigorated skin something you could live with? Then do read on and you will discover just how “in the tea leaves” your skins future is!

The origins of Green Tea dates back to 4,000 years ago in China. The tea is produced by way of steaming the leaves of the pretty perennial evergreen shrub known as Camellia Sinensis . The fact that the leaves are steamed means that the precious antioxidants found in this skin tea are saved from damage that may be incurred by other methods like fermenting. The antioxidants mentioned are known technically as catechin polyphenols, the most important of these being, in shortened idiom, EGCG. EGCG takes dominance with regards to the polyphenols as it has such immense influences on the whole body.

Your skins cells have a lifecycle of just 28 days. It takes approximately 20 of those days for the new cells, created from stem cells, to reach the very surface of the skin, known as the epidermis. Shortly after reaching the surface of the skin, they lay there and are ready to die. However, amazingly, it has been shown that EGCG has reacted with these ‘dying’ cells and prompted them to begin renewing themselves. Knowing this amazing fact, it makes sense to assume that if the skins dying cells can re- divide and renew themselves, the skin will benefit hugely in look and feel. Due to this discovery Green Tea, has been given another powerful nickname, the ‘fountain of youth’.

A two year study recently released by Stanford University revealed that, with Green Tea drinking volunteers, the EGCG’s (antioxidants) found in Green Tea showed, smoother skin, reduction in pore size and a reduction of ‘red vein’ look. It also appears to inhibit the release of histamine, reducing the skin sensitivity and redness, and can significantly reduce the appearance of Acne Rosacea.

Other Facts You Should Know

In reality, EGCG catechins are a massive 100 times more valuable to you than Vitamin C and 25 more efficient than Vitamin E is.

One cup of Green Tea supplies 10-40mg of catechins, which supplies you with more antioxidants than a decent serving of spinach, broccoli, carrots and strawberries.

EGCG quenches Free Radicals, the ‘unpaired’ electrons that destroy cell membranes. Because of this, Green Teas antioxidants can work in conjunction with sun protection creams in saving the skin from UV radiation. It does not form a barrier; rather it kills off these free radicals when they enter the skin. Very interesting fact to know, considering that UV radiation is the cause of 90% of all signs of anti-aging.

Vitamin B – Riboflavin, is also found in Green Tea, and is responsible for keeping the tissues of the skin, hair and nails in good condition and to heal and protect the tissues of the skin.

In particular this antioxidant kills cancer cells and leaves the healthy cells alone.

Green tea health benefits have normally been related to the French paradox, or the health benefits of drinking red wine. As with tea, red wine has polyphenols and antioxidants that are very beneficial to the heart. However epigallocatechin gallate has been found to be much more powerful than the polyphenols found in red wine.

Green tea has also been found to be an ingredient in many skin care products and also can stop food poisoning and kill the bacteria that cause tooth decay.

The only thing that might stop you from drinking tea is that it contains caffeine, and if you drink too much caffeine, you might have trouble sleeping at night. Dieting With A Healthy Attitude

October 12th, 2009

You would be astounded to discover just how many individuals think that the best way to slim down is by going hungry and while this does work in the short run, you will not find one physician that would ever advocate this severe course of action. Health weight loss diets are only ever advocated since such radical measures only leave the body weak with an even weaker immune system. Most of the better healthy weight loss diets advocate providing the person the required amount of calorific intake which is considered to be just right, and the diet should contain all the necessary nutrients required by the body.

Many individuals forget just how essential it is to have a decent nights’ sleep for good health and body maintenance, this is just as important as burning off those excess calories found in the areas of fat most of us carry around. Sometimes the females periodicals are the real culprit in promoting these fad diet plans, which are not backed by any scientific data or trials and they somehow convince the readers that these are allegedly healthy weight loss plans. Take the example of eating boiled vegetables with chicken, salad and fruits: while this is not bad to begin with, it is to be remembered that a healthy weight loss diet would include several other nutrients which simply boiled vegetables may not contain. The vast majority of people consuming a diet that is made up of these food groups may lose weight and feel a little better but will finally fail in their healthy weight loss as they become incredibly bored by the same food every day.

Following a healthy weight loss diet plan can be quite easy once you start. Organize your calorie allowance and by sticking to this and doing some sort of exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, a quick walk around the block is quite sufficient and not forgetting the good nights sleep. Rest is an amazingly serious part of our lives – the medical science arena is only just beginning to comprehend the importance of rest to our health. Those that do find themselves having difficulty with there weight can tend to have small feast during the night and sometimes it is not even remembered.

If you are someone who does rise in the night to eat, this will only hurt you and your body as it will be ruining any effort that you have made during the day whilst following a healthy weight loss diet program with exercise, to burn off calories. You will soon see the effects of following a healthy weight loss plan as you will have more energy, your clothes wills start to fall off you, your attitude will change and you will become a lot happier and getting a better nights sleep will only help your immune system to fight off any illnesses.

Another aspect of a healthy weight loss diet is personal interest and self-impression about the ongoing transformation, for example: being too critical and demanding of yourself, could sometimes do more bad than good. We must be patient with the way we exercise as our bodies respond in different ways. Those that are have a lot of weight to lose can tend to become desperate and try to overcome this by increasing their physical exercise.

Any healthy weight loss program involves regular physical exercise, but some overweight individuals go overboard with this part, forgetting that your intensity level should be mild to moderate in the beginning with swimming or jogging and when you feel up to it, and then join a gym later. More to the point is that physical exercise should start slowly at first and then gradually increasing the level of exercise so that you feel good.
